Ramayana has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark worldwide in just two days. The catch? Its second-day numbers in India were lower than the opening.

What happened?

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Ranbir Kapoor starrer earned Rs 48.05 crore net in India on Day 2. That is a drop of over 25% from opening day. Even so, its total India net collection now stands at Rs 112.90 crore.

Worldwide, the film opened with Rs 127.50 crore and has now reached Rs 221.05 crore gross. Overseas markets added about Rs 35 crore on Friday, taking the international total to Rs 86.25 crore.

How did each language do?

The Hindi version led the pack with Rs 35.50 crore from 19,859 shows. The Kannada version followed with Rs 5.15 crore from 904 shows, and Telugu earned Rs 4.75 crore from 1,530 shows.

Tamil brought in Rs 1.50 crore and Malayalam Rs 1.15 crore. Occupancy for the Hindi 3D shows was 28.46%, while 2D shows managed 23.37%.

About 18 lakh tickets were sold on Day 2. Over the first two days, that adds up to more than 43 lakh tickets.

Why is everyone talking about it?

Because the stakes are huge. Ramayana is planned as a two-part adaptation of the Indian epic, with a combined budget of Rs 4,000 crore. It is produced by Namit Malhotra of DNEG, the visual effects company.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi is Sita and Yash plays Ravana, with Ravi Dubey in a pivotal role. The first part ends after Ravana abducts Sita and Jatayu dies. Rama vows to find Sita and bring her back, which sets up the big battle in part two.

What's next?

The first weekend will show whether the Day 2 dip is a blip or a trend. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film was announced as a two-part project back in 2023, so the second chapter now has a lot to live up to.
