Rosamund Pike is about to get very weird. The actor will star in and produce "Feed", a body horror film directed by Leslye Headland, the creator of "The Acolyte".

The script comes from Daniella Isaacs, and sales start at the American Film Market (the industry's big deal-making event) next week.

What is 'Feed' about?

Here is the official logline. A desperate mother finds an obscure collagen supplement that promises to turn her tween gymnast daughter into an influencer star. Fame and success arrive fast.

But as the daughter goes viral, the mother begins a monstrous transformation.

The film is inspired by the 2022 Finnish horror movie "Hatching", which follows a young gymnast and a monstrous egg. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022.

What did Pike and Headland say?

Pike says she has long wanted to make a film that "plays anarchically" with our obsession with social media and self-improvement. She also points to our desire for fame without notable skill and, in her words, "the monstrosity of modern motherhood".

Headland called Isaacs's script "audacious, disturbing and deeply human". She described Pike as "among the boldest actors working today".

Pike will produce through her company Primitive Streak. Several other producers are on board, and ZQ Entertainment financed development.

Why does it matter?

It marks Headland's return to directing. She hasn't directed since "The Acolyte", the Star Wars series that premiered on Disney+ in June 2024 and was cancelled after one season. Her last feature was "Sleeping with Other People" in 2015. Next up for her is "Cult of Love", a Christmas family dramedy now in pre-production.

Pike was last seen in Guy Ritchie's "In the Grey" with Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal. In 2027 she reunites with Ritchie for "Wife and Dog", with Anthony Hopkins and Benedict Cumberbatch.

No release date or cast beyond Pike has been announced yet. Buyers will get their first look at the project at the market next week.
