Polish villages are putting up signs: 'This is a village, food is produced here'
New signs in Polish villages remind passers-by that farmland is a workplace. The slogan: "This is a village, food is produced here. Appreciate our work."

Drive through the Polish countryside and you may spot a new kind of sign. More and more villages are putting up boards that read: "Tu jest wieś, tu się żywność produkuje. Doceń naszą pracę." In English: "This is a village, food is produced here. Appreciate our work."
The signs are meant to remind people that these areas are, first and foremost, farming communities. They are being presented as a response to disputes with farmers.
The message is short and direct: the fields around you are somebody's workplace, and the food on your table starts there. It is not a long manifesto, just one sentence asking for a bit of respect.
The boards are appearing in one town after another across Poland, which suggests the idea is spreading. For now, the signs themselves are the story: a simple line asking you to appreciate the people who produce the country's food.
