After 50 years, Lörrach watchmaker Klaus Jakob closes the family shop
Klaus Jakob spent half a century in his family's watch shop in Lörrach and even launched his own brand. Now the shop has closed its doors.

Fifty years is a long time to spend behind the same counter. Klaus Jakob did exactly that.
The watchmaker worked for half a century in his family's watch shop in Lörrach, a town in southwestern Germany near the Swiss border. At some point he went a step further and founded his own watch brand.
Now the shop is closed. Jakob has shut up the family business that shaped most of his working life.
His career also took him abroad. Looking back, he says that in Japan he was celebrated like a pop star. For a man whose daily work involves tiny screws and quiet concentration, that is quite a contrast.
The closure marks the end of a long chapter for the shop and for the town. Passers-by in Lörrach will find one familiar address less on the street, and one long-running family business gone from the local scene.
