Latvian pro-Russia activist moved to Russia, was accused of fraud and sent to war
Sergei Mulivanov, 59, left Latvia two years ago over disagreement with its policy. In Russia he was accused of fraud and sent to fight in Ukraine.

Sergei Mulivanov, 59, was an activist of the Russian Union of Latvia, a pro-Russian organisation in Latvia. Two years ago he left the country and moved to the Moscow region because he disagreed with Latvian policy.
His life in Russia has since taken a sharp turn. According to his lawyer, relatives and acquaintances, Mulivanov was accused of fraud and then sent to fight in the war against Ukraine.
So a man who relocated for political reasons has ended up in the war. His lawyer and people close to him have spoken openly about his case.
It is a reminder that moving to a country whose course you support does not always lead to the quiet life you expect.
