KHL champions lose to the league's worst club for the second time this season
Lada beat the reigning KHL champions on penalties after a 0-0 draw through regulation and overtime, with Rasim Shakirov scoring the decisive shootout goal.

The reigning champion of the KHL (the Kontinental Hockey League, Russia's top professional league) has stumbled against the bottom of the table again.
The champions lost to Lada, the league's worst club, for the second time this season. That makes this one a proper headache for the title holders.
The game itself was a tight, goalless affair. Regulation time ended 0-0, and the five minutes of overtime did not change anything either. Neither side could find a way past the goalkeeper, so the result came down to a shootout.
That is where Lada found its moment. Rasim Shakirov scored the decisive penalty and handed his team the win.
For the champions, losing twice to the team at the very bottom of the standings is an uncomfortable statistic. For Lada, beating the best team in the league, and doing it twice, is a rare bright spot in a difficult season.
